A family of polar bears swim isiand-to-island in the frigid waters of Ungava Bay in Nunavik Canada on our 'Polar Bears, Musk-ox, Icebergs & Seals' wildlife expedition. Polar bears spend the summer here fishing for char, hunting for seals, resting, sleeping and waiting for the winter sea ice to return. Compared to other areas in the Arctic, Nunavik and northern Labrador supports a healthy and even growing population of polar bears. Aside from fish and the occassional seal, during the ice free periods of summer the bears manage to feed themselves fairly well by also capturing young ducks, eating eider duck eggs and even seaweed. Mariela writes:

"All trips were planned in the most respectful way to the fragile ecosystems from where we operated. We were specially sensitive with our encounters with wildlife trying not to disturb them nor feel our presence. We had memorable encounters with wolves', migrating caribou, with polar bears and musk-oxen. I was able to witness the positive evolution that our guests experienced in all of our expeditions. Being outside of their comfort zones, exposed to this sublime landscapes, rigorous weather conditions and encounters with animals in the wild, I think It is a genuine and profound invitation to re-think personal choices and priorities in everyone’s life. I am sure that all of them came back home with something much more than great pictures, something new and unexpected to share with friends and family. Being one of the guides I felt like a true travel partner in the deep exploration of this territory."
